It’s the holidays. Time to start handmaking ALL the things, y’all.
This recipe is pure indulgence–and the perfect treat for an early morning shower for the mocha or latté lover in your life.
This Vanilla Mocha Coffee & Sugar Scrub smells soooooo yummy: coffee, sugar, vanilla-infused jojoba, and a hint of cocoa butter make it like a delicious, nourishing, and refreshing cup of joe for your skin! The aroma of the combined ingredients smells just like a fancy sweetened coffee beverage, only it’s all natural and contains zero calories. (Because you are, of course, NOT going to eat it!)
If you don’t have–or don’t want to source–vanilla-infused jojoba, you can substitute a light, skin-friendly oil like sweet almond oil and add a 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract. You know what that means, right?
You can probably make this with things you already have in your kitchen and pantry!
You can “fudge” this recipe easily in a number of ways. What you ultimately want is a ratio of anywhere from 2:1 to 4:1 solids (ground coffee, sugar, brown sugar, or salt) to oils. A 2:1 ratio yields a more oily blend that will drip in your hands; the 4:1 ratio will yield more of a grainy, true sugar and grounds scrub. Since I like to have more nourishing oil to moisturize and coat my skin, I tend to make the scrubs I use personally on the 2:1 (solids-to-oils) side.
The scrub has a delicious scent and multiple exfoliants to refresh the skin. If you elect to use caffeinated coffee grounds, the caffeine will actually also help to tighten your skin!
Invigorating Vanilla Mocha Morning Shower Scrub
Your favorite awakening morning scents combined in a scrumptious shower scrub that exfoliates, invigorates, and indulges your skin and your senses.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup finely ground coffee
- 1/2 cup organic brown sugar
- 2T to 1/3 cup vanilla-infused jojoba (use more or less to yield the consistency you want)
- 2T cocoa butter, melted
- A large glass bowl
- A small, heatproof glass measuring cup (like Pyrex)
- A sturdy whisk or large fork for stirring
- Plastic spatula for scraping the bowl
- A wide-mouth funnel for transferring into jar(s)
- Glass or PET plastic jar with lid to hold approximately 16 ounces--or more, smaller jars to suit
Directions
- Step 1 Melt the cocoa butter in a double boiler (or, alternately, inside a heatproof container in a pan of hot water or microwave).
- Step 2 While the cocoa butter melts, combine the ground coffee and brown sugar in the large bowl.
- Step 3 Blend in 2T of the vanilla-infused jojoba, stirring to coat.
- Step 4 Slowly add in the cocoa butter and stir carefully to mix thoroughly.
- Step 5 Using the spatula, guide the resulting scrub through your funnel into your desired jar(s).
- Step 6 If you desire a more oily texture, add more vanilla-infused jojoba to get the consistency you prefer. Limiting the total oils/butters you add to 4T will yield a more sugar-y scrub than the one shown here.
- Step 7 This scrub is designed to be used in the shower on the limbs and torso on unbroken skin
- Step 8 avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes. Note that the shower/tub can get INCREDIBLY slippery after you use any scrub with carrier oils. BE CAREFUL!
